Who we are

Welcome to our museum, a place dedicated to chronicling one of the most pivotal periods in modern history. We focus on the years between Winston Churchill's iconic "Iron Curtain" speech on March 5, 1946, and the official dissolution of the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991. Since opening, we've expanded our scope to include events beyond this timeline, as modern developments, particularly Russia's resurgence under Putin, echo the past in new and unsettling ways.

At the heart of our museum is the story of how people lived, worked, and played during this complex era. From soldiers and military personnel to civilians in countries like Poland, Hungary, and now Ukraine, we cover the human experiences that defined this time. Alongside the political and military history, we showcase everyday items like toys, clothes, and entertainment that tell the story of life during this period. With our recent addition of a section on the Ukraine conflict, we ensure that history remains relevant to today’s world.

Currently we can only display items outdoors but in the coming years as we grow we will get permission for indoor displays.

our founder

Paul O’Brien owner curator. Here i am standing Infront of one of our special displays of a BTR-60PB. A cold war classic. My interest in history, engineering and machines led me towards the cold war as these machines are our era. they are findable today and can be operated and run, this led me to become obsessed with the period and eventually fulfilling a life long ambition to open a museum on the topic. I have been studying the Cold War for over 50 years, collecting these artifacts, books memento’s and general historical items helping me to build a deep understanding of the period. I’m committed to sharing that knowledge with everyone who visits. Having worked with people from all walks of life, I am a firm believer in our shared humanity, from kings to sanitation engineers. We are one people.
